Npower Renewables Onshore Works Presentation, Optic Technium, St Asaph
All of Conwy and Denbighshire councillors where invited to a presentation and exhibition on Npowers proposed onshore work for the Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farm. The idea of the evening was to give us a view of the future planning application to connect the cables form the wind farm which will come a sure just west of Belgrano, Conwy to the National Grid site at St Aspah, Denbighshire. The cables will predominately be underground apart form the last 500m.
The planning application will be submitted to Conwy, Denbighsire and DBERR (formally the DTI, and also the Department responsible for making the decision on the Gwynt y Mor wind farm).
For more information see: http://www.npower-renewables.com/
Npower Renewables provided a coach for councillors to travel from Bodlondeb, they hired the coach from Alpine, only 5 councillors took up this offer (including myself). Then out of the 59 Conwy County councillors only approx. 10 came to the presentation, in addition there were a couple of local town councillors. Denbighshire had been invited to a similar event on the Tuesday.
This planning application is likely to be submitted before DBERR have made the decision on the Wind Farm, hence a condition of this application will be set linking it to DBERR's decision. As you can imagine this is a sensitive issue and based on my experience so far and the history of this project I'm sure some Councillors would not want to make a decision on this if they thought it can influence the DBERR decision on the Wind Farm. Hence there has to be sufficient conditions to allow this application to be considered on its own merits, for the porpose of laying cables form one point to another. I suggested to Npower that the planning committee would probably ask for a site visit (especially to the Belgrano site) and hence this should be discussed with the officers.
