I heard yesterday that my fellow ward member Councillor Dennis Tew has resigned from the Conservative Party and the Group.
I do not have any other information at this point, but this is a decision I'm sure he hasn't taken likely. I haven't spoke with him direct at the moment, I'm sure his telephone line is very busy at the moment.
Dennis will continue in his role of Councillor, and we will see what he does in the future as to joining any other group within the council. I am not sure whether anyone else will follow Dennis but with this and what has happened with the expulsion of Cllr Hazel Meredith there does seem to be some problems within the local Conservative Party.
The announcement has been sent to all the Conservative members and Dennis was in the village yesterday letting people know.
I have to admit to be quite shocked and seems to be out of character. It is unlike him to make a stand like this (although see Update 2 below, which makes this statement incorrect). I'm sure more will come out over time (see Update 2).
Update:
Just spotted this on Cllr Phil Edwards Twitter
After Tudno FM introduced new Plaid members from Deganwy to Ieuan. They were really impressed to have met and have been welcomed by Ieuan
Posted yesterday evening
Coincidence ??
The view that he may be joining a different party was expressed by some councillors when they heard the news yesterday.
Update 2:
Interesting posting by Guto Bebb on his blog, details more of the potential reasons for the resignation:
